PERMAFROST SHUB: FULL REVEAL

The day is here for the full reveal! This  project has been a wild ride for me personally. When it comes to painting something like this, I really tend to want to go all out & go crazy.  What I love about this figure, is it really gives you every avenue to explore, paint and lend your own creativity to. Instinctively, it's hard to keep an airbrush away from this figure, so I literally had to be careful when I first got gun in hand, because the true beauty of this sculpt is in the details. So I wanted to highlight the inherent details in the figure, in a new way, but without smothering the figure! Coming from a background in aerosol and then acrylic, I am used to being an American artist who slathers color on everything. It was a good exercise for me to try and take what I have learned over the last few years from what I'd call the "traditional" kaiju style painters in both Japan and those in the US who have seemed to master the perfect balance of paint & vinyl base color. It's definitely hard as a "newer" painter to pay tribute to those styles, but create your own signature as well, and I'm really happy at how this got turned out. Traditional kaiju loose spray combined with a neo-American wild style is the finished product I'd say. I highlighted the amazing details, and let the base color shine through. I think I did this guy justice, and I hope you all do too!

So without further ado, I present to you, the Shub Zeroth Permafrost version.  (photos by Justin Jewitt)

The Permafrost Shub version is cast on light grey vinyl, and then I gave it the Dski treatment by adding pinks & teals, silver & gold, and an amazing color change paint on the back to highlight the Octopus!  Can't wait for you all to see it, I'm really stoked on how it turned out and am grateful to Brian & Justin for entrusting their baby to me! Release is set for May 1st at 11am Pacific Time, and will be for sale exclusively via Lulubell Toys.  Until the full reveal, here's a couple progress shots from day 1 of painting!  The first couple days I laid down base colors.  Not that exciting, but a part of the process. Wait tip you see the overlay colors!!! I'll post day 2 shots in a day or so, so please check back & watch the progress of these beauties!

Funhouse skull

Had a little bit of time with my airbrush today, and wanted to blast out something colorful & fun! Been watching a lot of bad horror movies lately, since our Netflix well of good ones is long dry, and I think all the b-flicks were in my mind for this guy. Here's my crazy Funhouse Skull custom, which is available now for only $40 bones here. (Sculpt by Maruyama Gangu of Japan)

I have a few more blanks - so if you want specific colors, hit me up and I'll do one special for you for the same price.

Yamomark Baranbaran custom

Everything is blooming in our garden this week, so what better inspiration for colors than Lady Nature herself?  I just love this flower Monster by Yamomark - so many rad details in the flowers and the insect combo is just insane!  Also, it's a glow base vinyl - and the glow shines through heavily through the sprays! Had a blast with this guy, hope you enjoy! Up for grabs now at Lulubell Toys here!

Ack....I've been working way too many long hours lately & haven't had much time to paint outside of commissions, and I miss it.  Don't get me wrong - it's a good problem to have, I'm not complaining! It just makes me even more stoked when I do have a few spare hours to unload an airbrush.  I absolutely love this dude by Yamazakura, and haven't seen them around in a bit, so I had fun blasting this guy into brightly colored submission!  The Niohone sculpt is so fun to work with, I've always love this guy! I worked some low lights into the vein and skeletal aspects, which really define the great anatomy in this sculpt!

To see close-up shots of this guy, or to purchase, check him out on the Lulubell Toys site here!  Only $60 bones!
